Niger: 3,856 cases of meningitis were recorded between Jan. 1st and May 4th
• Niger is facing a shortage of vaccines on the international market
• Tests have confirmed the predominance of Neisseria serogroup C in the affected areas, with serogroup W also being identified in several samples
• At least 265 deaths in Niger meningitis epidemic
• Neighboring countries are also battling an outbreak of the disease:
– Nigeria: 1,380 cases, including 83 deaths as of April 5th 2015
– Burkina Faso: At least 1,696 cases and 182 deaths as of May 10th 2015
