According to local public health and press sources, 1 presumably dog-related human case of rabies was reported in Corumbá Municipality, Mato Grosso do Sul State, on April 13, 2015, and is the first human rabies case reported in the state in 20 years.
An epidemic of canine rabies is occurring in Corumbá (9 cases) and Ladário (3 cases) municipalities, a significant increase over the average incidence, since March 16, 2015.
Travelers should seek medical care if bitten, scratched, or licked by a dog in the immediate vicinity of Corumbá or Ladário municipalities since March 2015.
Rabies is recommended for certain travelers to Brazil; Check with a travel health professional at least 4-6 weeks prior to departure.
