Insect Precautions You Need to Take When Travelling

Insect Precautions You Need to Take When Travelling

Insects transmit many diseases such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever, and West Nile. Mosquitoes are common carriers, but diseases can be passed through various flies, and ticks.

Preventative medication or vaccine is available for yellow fever, Japanese Encephalitis and malaria, but should be used in combination with personal protective measures.

Remember: Preventing insect bites is the best protection.

Use insect repellent containing 30% DEET on exposed skin and wear light coloured, loose fitting clothing when possible. You can purchase approved insect repellent products in our online store.

Sleep in air-conditioned or well screened areas and or use a bed net treated with the insecticide permethrin and keep it well tucked in around the bed. We also offer bed nets in various sizes to accommodate all types of rooms.

Because the risk of insect borne diseases vary greatly it is important to obtain pre-travel advice based on your specific trip.

Contact Atlas Immunization to help you stay healthy and enjoy your travels. Be sure to book your travel vaccination appointment well in advance of your next trip!
